Quick answer
Google Cloud bills each service at its list price, then automatically discounts N2 VMs that run most of the month. On official prices checked October 14, 2026 in us-east1 (South Carolina), an n2-standard-2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB) lists at $70.90 a month, and the sustained use discount brings a full month down to $56.73, 20% less. Playxoft's free Google Cloud (GCP) cost calculator applies that discount and the free tier, and prices a small SaaS app at $255.88 a month against $304.15 on AWS.
- Sustained use discounts
- Cloud Run functions
- Cloud SQL and Firestore
- 12 GCP regions
- Free tier applied

How much does Google Cloud cost per month?
Here is what four of the presets cost on Google Cloud in each of the 12 regions, at on-demand list prices with automatic discounts and always-free allowances applied:
| Region | Small SaaS | Mobile app backend | Static site + API | Media and downloads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| US East | $255.88 | $164.48 | $70.59 | $1,246.18 |
| US West | $255.88 | $137.76 | $69.55 | $1,246.18 |
| Canada | $291.81 | $174.33 | $69.86 | $1,274.73 |
| Brazil (São Paulo) | $410.19 | $209.60 | $75.52 | $2,034.73 |
| Ireland | $279.49 | $152.99 | $69.80 | $1,258.44 |
| UK (London) | $325.15 | $179.97 | $70.07 | $1,274.73 |
| Germany (Frankfurt) | $325.15 | $179.97 | $70.07 | $1,274.73 |
| India | $314.95 | $153.16 | $74.87 | $1,258.44 |
| Singapore | $339.49 | $179.02 | $74.93 | $1,259.73 |
| Japan (Tokyo) | $336.45 | $156.96 | $75.03 | $1,273.44 |
| South Korea (Seoul) | $350.60 | $201.99 | $75.03 | $2,064.49 |
| Australia (Sydney) | $372.21 | $200.15 | $85.03 | $1,974.73 |
For the Small SaaS preset, US East is the cheapest region and Brazil (São Paulo) the most expensive. The two US regions here (South Carolina and Oregon) are the only ones with the free e2-micro VM, 5 GB of free Cloud Storage and 100 GB of free Cloud Storage downloads. Canada, Brazil (São Paulo), UK (London), Germany (Frankfurt), Singapore, South Korea (Seoul) and Australia (Sydney) are tier-2 regions for Cloud Run, where CPU and memory cost 40% more than in tier-1 regions.
How much does a Google Cloud VM cost per month?
List prices in us-east1 (South Carolina) for a 730-hour month, before the disk (balanced persistent disk at $0.10 per GB-month), and what Google's automatic sustained use discount brings a full month down to:
| Machine type | vCPU / memory | List price per month | With the full-month discount |
|---|---|---|---|
| e2-micro | 2 vCPU, 1 GB | $6.11 | No discount (E2) |
| e2-medium | 2 vCPU, 4 GB | $24.46 | No discount (E2) |
| n2-standard-2 | 2 vCPU, 8 GB | $70.90 | $56.73 |
| n2-standard-4 | 4 vCPU, 16 GB | $141.79 | $113.46 |
| n2-standard-8 | 8 vCPU, 32 GB | $283.58 | $226.92 |
One e2-micro is free each month in us-east1, us-west1 and us-central1. Google counts it in hours: e2-micro use is free until it reaches the number of hours in the month, across all your e2-micro VMs.
How do sustained use discounts lower Google Cloud VM prices?
Google discounts N2 machines automatically the longer they run in a month. There is nothing to buy or sign: each quarter of the month is billed at a lower rate than the one before.
| Share of the month the VM runs | Rate for that quarter | Discount on the whole month if it runs this long |
|---|---|---|
| 0–25% | 100% | 0% |
| 25–50% | 86.78% | 6.6% |
| 50–75% | 73.3% | 13.3% |
| 75–100% | 60% | 20% |
So an n2-standard-2 that runs all month costs $56.73 instead of its $70.90 list price in us-east1. E2 machines, including e2-micro and e2-medium, do not get sustained use discounts; they are cheaper per hour to begin with. The calculator applies the discount from the hours you enter, so try 365 hours to see a half-month server.

Things worth knowing:
- Cloud Run pricing tiers. Tier 1: US East, US West, Ireland, India and Japan (Tokyo). Tier 2: Canada, Brazil (São Paulo), UK (London), Germany (Frankfurt), Singapore, South Korea (Seoul) and Australia (Sydney).
- Firestore in us-east1 is priced at Google's multi-region rates, twice the price of us-west1 (Oregon).
- Egress uses the default Premium Tier. Cloud Storage includes 100 GB of downloads a month from US regions. Standard Tier is cheaper per GB and includes 200 GB free a month, but routes traffic over the public internet sooner.
- Cloud SQL sizes are priced as vCPUs plus memory (Enterprise edition), with separate high-availability rates.
How is Cloud Run functions pricing calculated?
Cloud Run functions (formerly Cloud Functions, 2nd gen) are billed as Cloud Run services with request-based billing. You pay $0.40 per million requests plus CPU and memory for the time each instance spends handling requests, rounded up to the next 100 ms.
By default, the CPU follows the memory you choose: 128 MB gets 0.083 vCPU, 256 MB gets 0.167, 512 MB gets 0.333, 1 GB gets 0.583, 2 GB gets 1 vCPU, and 4 or 8 GB get 2 vCPU.
Every month, 2 million requests, 180,000 vCPU-seconds and 360,000 GiB-seconds are free. Google applies that allowance as a credit at tier-1 prices, so in tier-2 regions it covers fewer seconds. The calculator assumes one request per instance at a time; if your function serves several requests at once on one instance, the real cost is lower.
What does the Google Cloud free tier include?
New customers get a $300 credit for 90 days. On top of that, every account gets these allowances each month, and the calculator applies them:
- Compute Engine: one e2-micro VM in us-west1, us-central1 or us-east1, plus 30 GB-months of standard persistent disk and 1 GB of egress from North America
- Cloud Run: 2 million requests, 180,000 vCPU-seconds and 360,000 GiB-seconds
- Cloud Storage: 5 GB-months of Standard storage, 5,000 Class A and 50,000 Class B operations and 100 GB of downloads from North America, in US regions
- Firestore: 1 GiB stored, 50,000 reads, 20,000 writes and 20,000 deletes per day
The calculator prices balanced persistent disks, which are not part of the free 30 GB of standard disk, so the free e2-micro still shows its disk cost.
How does Google Cloud compare with AWS, Azure and Cloudflare?
Each comparison prices both clouds at three usage levels in all 12 regions and compares their features from official documentation.
- [AWS vs Google Cloud](/tools/cloud-pricing/aws-vs-google-cloud): Google's automatic sustained use discount lowers always-on server costs, while AWS charges less for data sent to the internet and for serverless and NoSQL at app scale.
- [Google Cloud vs Azure](/tools/cloud-pricing/google-cloud-vs-azure): Google's automatic sustained use discount lowers always-on server costs, while Azure charges less for internet egress.
- [Google Cloud vs Cloudflare](/tools/cloud-pricing/google-cloud-vs-cloudflare): Cloudflare charges no egress fees and bills Workers for CPU time only, while Google Cloud runs larger, longer workloads in a single region.
Service by service: Amazon EC2 vs Compute Engine · Compute Engine vs Azure Virtual Machines · AWS Lambda vs Google Cloud Run · Google Cloud Run vs Cloudflare Workers · Amazon S3 vs Google Cloud Storage · Google Cloud Storage vs Cloudflare R2 · Amazon RDS vs Google Cloud SQL · Amazon DynamoDB vs Firestore.
Where do these prices come from?
Every number comes from the provider's own published price list, read on October 14, 2026: the AWS Price List files, the Azure Retail Prices API, Google Cloud's pricing pages and Cloudflare's pricing documentation. Nothing is scraped from third-party sites, and each value was checked against a second official source where one exists.
- AWS: Amazon EC2 On-Demand pricing · AWS Lambda pricing · Amazon S3 pricing · Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL pricing · Amazon DynamoDB pricing · EC2 data transfer pricing · Amazon CloudFront pricing
- Google Cloud: Compute Engine VM pricing · Cloud Run pricing · Cloud Storage pricing · Cloud SQL pricing · Firestore pricing · Network (egress) pricing · Cloud CDN pricing
- Azure: Linux Virtual Machines pricing · Azure Functions pricing · Blob Storage pricing · Azure Database for PostgreSQL pricing · Cosmos DB serverless pricing · Bandwidth pricing · Azure Front Door pricing
- Cloudflare: Containers pricing · Workers pricing · R2 pricing · D1 pricing · Workers KV pricing · Cloudflare plans
Prices are in US dollars, on-demand, for Linux, with no commitments. Every figure on this page is generated from the same price snapshot as the calculator, and automated tests check each claim whenever the prices change. A month is 730 hours and 1 TB is 1,024 GB. Providers change prices from time to time, so for a purchase decision confirm the final figure in the provider's console.
Want an engineer to check your real cloud bill?
A calculator shows list prices. A real bill also carries the costs nobody planned for: servers sized for a launch that never came, test environments left running, services that talk across zones, logs nobody reads. Finding those is our day job.
