What are the key differences between Google Cloud and Cloudflare?
- Egress. Google's Premium Tier charges per GB of internet egress; Cloudflare charges nothing for data sent from Workers and R2.
- Compute. Cloud Run functions allow several GiB of memory and 60-minute HTTP requests in one region; Workers run in 335+ cities with 128 MB and 5 minutes of CPU per request.
- Free tiers. Cloud Run includes 2 million requests a month; the Workers free plan allows 100,000 requests a day.
- Data. Firestore offers strong consistency and rich queries; Workers KV is eventually consistent key-value storage.
Should you choose Google Cloud or Cloudflare?
Choose Google Cloud if
- your workloads need lots of memory, long requests or containers
- you need strongly consistent queries (Firestore) or managed PostgreSQL
- you already use Google data services
Choose Cloudflare if
- bandwidth is a large share of your bill
- you want global low latency without picking regions
- your code is short-lived and mostly waits on I/O
