Alarm and display

The alarm is scheduled on your device's audio clock when you press Start, so it rings on time even in a background tab. It keeps ringing until you dismiss it.
Alarm loudness on this device. Your system volume still applies, so turn that up too.

Quick answer

Ten seconds is the classic limit for a quiz answer or a game turn, long enough for a quick reaction drill, and the window for a fast pulse check during exercise (count the beats and multiply by 6). Playxoft's free 10 second timer is preset and ready: press Start or the Space key and it sounds an alarm at zero. Turn on Repeat for a beep every 10 seconds.

  • Set to 10 seconds
  • Alarm rings in background tabs
  • Multiple timers
  • Six alarm sounds
  • Fullscreen focus mode

How to use this 10 second timer

  1. 1The timer is already set to 10 seconds. Press Start or the Space key to begin.
  2. 2Optional: name it (for example "Quiz answer"), pick an alarm Sound, and turn on Repeat to run it again automatically.
  3. 3While it runs, use +1 min or the quick chips to adjust, and Focus mode for fullscreen digits.
  4. 4When the alarm rings, press Dismiss, or Snooze 5 min for more time.

What can you time in 10 seconds?

Ten seconds is short enough to keep a game moving and long enough to think. Common uses:

  • Quiz and game answers. Give each player ten seconds to answer, name a word in a category or make a move. Focus mode shows the countdown to the whole room.
  • Reaction and speed drills. Count how many reps, taps or ball touches you can fit in before the alarm, then try to beat it.
  • Photo and toast countdowns. Start the timer, get into the shot or raise a glass at zero.
  • Quick pulse checks during exercise. Count your heartbeats for 10 seconds and multiply by 6 for an estimate of beats per minute. It is rough; counting for a full minute is more accurate at rest.
  • Balance holds. Beginners often start single-leg stands and yoga balances with short holds before building up.

How do I get a beep every 10 seconds?

Turn on Repeat under the timer. When the countdown reaches zero it plays a short alarm and starts again from 10 seconds by itself, until you pause it. Repeating timers stay in step because each round starts from the exact moment the previous one ended, not from when the page noticed.

That makes a simple metronome for drills: switch exercises every 10 seconds, rotate stations or pace a breathing exercise. For structured work and rest, such as 20 seconds on and 10 off, the interval timer is a better fit.

Tips for using a 10 second timer

  • Press Space to start and R to reset without reaching for the mouse; in games this keeps turns fast.
  • Pick the Digital or Alarm sound in a noisy room, or Chime for a classroom.
  • Open Focus mode (F) on a laptop connected to a TV or projector so everyone can see the seconds.
  • Need 15 or 20 seconds instead? Type 15s or 20s in the box under the presets.

How many 10-second rounds fit in a minute?

10 seconds is 0.167 of a minute, so 6 rounds fit in one minute and 360 in an hour.

MeasureValue
Seconds10
Minutes0.167
Hours0.0028
Back to back in one hour360
Back to back in one day8,640

With Repeat on, this timer goes off 360 times an hour, which makes it a dependable interval reminder.

Frequently asked questions

Find your pulse at your wrist or neck, start the timer, count the beats until the alarm, then multiply by 6. This gives a quick estimate of beats per minute; for a resting heart rate, counting for a full 60 seconds is more accurate.
Yes. Turn on Repeat and it restarts by itself every time it reaches zero, with a short alarm each round, until you pause it.
Yes. It works out the time left from your device clock on every frame, so it does not drift, and it ends within a few milliseconds of the 10-second mark.
