Quick answer

Fifteen seconds is the standard window for taking a pulse (count the beats, then multiply by 4), a comfortable hold for most stretches, and a lively limit for speed rounds in games. Playxoft's free 15 second timer is already set: press Start or the Space key and it sounds an alarm at zero. Turn on Repeat for a cue every 15 seconds while you switch sides or stations.

  • Set to 15 seconds
  • Alarm rings in background tabs
  • Multiple timers
  • Six alarm sounds
  • Fullscreen focus mode

How to use this 15 second timer

  1. 1The timer is already set to 15 seconds. Press Start or the Space key to begin.
  2. 2Optional: name it (for example "Plank hold"), pick an alarm Sound, and turn on Repeat to run it again automatically.
  3. 3While it runs, use +1 min or the quick chips to adjust, and Focus mode for fullscreen digits.
  4. 4When the alarm rings, press Dismiss, or Snooze 5 min for more time.

What can you use a 15 second timer for?

  • Taking a pulse. Count heartbeats for 15 seconds and multiply by 4. It is a quick, widely taught method; for an irregular heartbeat or a precise resting rate, count for the full minute.
  • Stretch holds. General fitness guidance suggests holding static stretches for roughly 10 to 30 seconds, and 15 seconds is a comfortable starting point for most of them.
  • Beginner planks and wall sits. Short holds with good form beat long holds with a sagging back. Add 5 seconds as you get stronger.
  • Speed rounds. Rapid-fire questions, "name as many as you can" categories, sketching games and debate rebuttals all work well with a 15-second limit.
  • Transitions. Give a class or a team 15 seconds to switch stations, change sides or get ready.

How do I count my pulse with a 15 second timer?

  1. Sit quietly for a few minutes if you want your resting heart rate.
  2. Place two fingers (not your thumb) on the inside of your wrist below the thumb, or at the side of your neck.
  3. Press Start and count every beat until the alarm.
  4. Multiply the count by 4. Eighteen beats in 15 seconds is 72 beats per minute.

This is an estimate, not a medical test. Counting for a full minute is more accurate, especially if your heartbeat feels irregular. If you have concerns about your heart rate, talk to a doctor.

Tips for using a 15 second timer

  • Turn on Repeat for a cue every 15 seconds, for example to change stretch or switch sides.
  • For alternating holds and rest, the interval timer runs both phases for you.
  • Use Focus mode for a large countdown you can read from the floor during planks.
  • Want 20 seconds for hand-washing? Type 20s: health agencies recommend scrubbing for at least 20 seconds.

How many 15-second rounds fit in a minute?

15 seconds is 0.25 of a minute, so 4 rounds fit in one minute and 240 in an hour.

MeasureValue
Seconds15
Minutes0.25
Hours0.0042
Back to back in one hour240

With Repeat on, this timer goes off 240 times an hour, which makes it a dependable interval reminder.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply the number of beats you counted in 15 seconds by 4. For example, 20 beats in 15 seconds is 80 beats per minute.
General fitness guidance suggests holding a static stretch for about 10 to 30 seconds and repeating it a few times. A 15 second timer is a good place to start; stop if a stretch hurts.
Yes. Turn on Repeat and it starts again by itself each time it reaches zero, with a short alarm every round.
