How is the year progress calculated?
The widget divides the time that has passed since the period began by the length of the whole period, down to the second, in the time zone you choose. The year starts at midnight on January 1 and ends at midnight on the next January 1, so leap years such as 2028 get their 366th day.
Days left counts the full days after today. On October 14, 2026, day 287 of 365, the widget reads 78 days left. Day of shows the same thing the other way round: Day 287 of 365.
The percentage is rounded down, never up, so the year cannot read 100% before it is over. With one decimal the year moves about every nine hours; with two, about every 53 minutes.
Bar, ring or dots: which display fits?
| Display | Shows | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Bar | A filling bar with the label and percentage | A thin strip across the page; at very small heights it fits on one line |
| Ring | A circle that fills, the percentage in the middle | A square spot or a side column |
| Dots | One dot per month, day or hour | A visual calendar |
Dots stand for the 12 months of the year, the days of the month, the 7 days of the week or the 24 hours of the day; the current one fills like a small pie. Custom ranges get one dot per day up to 40 days, and 20 equal segments for longer ranges.
When does a week or a day start?
Every period starts at midnight in the widget's time zone. Viewer's local time uses each person's own midnight; pick a city to share one calendar with a team.
Week starts on offers Monday (the international standard, ISO 8601), Sunday (common in the US, Canada and Japan) and Saturday. On the days the clocks change, a day lasts 23 or 25 hours, and the bar measures the real time that has passed, so it never jumps.
Can I track a semester, sprint or goal?
Yes: choose Custom and pick a start and an end date. The range includes both dates in full, so a sprint from Monday to the Friday of the next week reads 100% when that Friday ends. Before the range begins, the widget says how many days until it starts; after it ends, it shows 100% and Done.
Give it a Label such as "Semester 1" or "Q4 goals", or leave the label empty for an automatic one: the year, the month's name, this week's dates or today's date, written in your language.
Progress bar widget or Notion progress formula?
They measure different things. In a Notion database, a number property can be shown as a progress bar (Notion's database properties), and formulas or rollups often feed it the share of tasks that are checked off. That tracks work done.
This widget tracks time passed: how far through the year, the month or your sprint you are, updating live without any data. Put them side by side and you see at a glance whether the work is keeping up with the calendar.
