Quick answer

A Notion calendar widget is a small month calendar shown inside a Notion page with an embed block. Playxoft's free calendar widget highlights today, starts the week on the right day for each viewer's language, can show ISO week numbers and lets you browse months. It shows dates, not events. Copy the embed link and paste it into /embed in Notion.

  • Today highlighted
  • Browse months
  • ISO week numbers
  • Week start by language
  • Weekend shading
  • Five styles

How to use the Notion Calendar Widget

  1. 1Choose when the Week starts on, and switch on Week numbers if you plan by week.
  2. 2Decide on Month buttons, Days from other months and Shade weekends.
  3. 3Pick a style, then press Copy embed link.
  4. 4In Notion, type /embed, paste the link and choose Embed link.

Calendar widget, calendar view or Notion Calendar?

Three different things share the name, and they work well together:

What it isShows your events?
This calendar widgetA month at a glance, with today marked, embedded in any pageNo, it shows dates
Calendar viewA database layout that places pages on their datesYes, your database's pages
Notion CalendarNotion's separate calendar app for your scheduled eventsYes, from your connected calendars

Use the widget when you want to see where you are in the month, such as above a task list, in a journal or next to a weekly plan. Use a calendar view or Notion Calendar when you need to see what is scheduled.

Which day does the week start on?

On Auto, the calendar uses the first day of the week for each viewer's language, as the browser reports it: Monday in most of Europe and in the ISO 8601 standard, Sunday in the United States, Canada and Japan, and Saturday in several Middle Eastern and North African countries. Browsers that do not report it fall back to Monday. Choose Monday, Sunday or Saturday to fix it for everyone.

Shade weekends follows the same information, so the weekend columns are Saturday and Sunday for most viewers and Friday and Saturday where that is the weekend.

Week numbers are ISO 8601 numbers: weeks run Monday to Sunday, and week 1 is the week with the year's first Thursday. That is why 1 January can be in week 53 of the year before. Each row shows the number of the week its Thursday belongs to, whatever day your week starts on.

How do the month buttons work?

With Month buttons on, the arrows beside the month name move back and forward one month at a time. Click the month name to jump back to today. Browsing is just for the viewer: it does not change the widget for anyone else, and the calendar opens on the current month the next time the page loads.

Today's date comes from the viewer's device and moves on at midnight. Pick a Time zone if a team calendar should follow one office's date instead.

Layout tips

  • Inline in a column: about 300 × 260 fits a calendar beside a task list in a two-column layout.
  • With week numbers: allow a little more width, about 340 × 300.
  • Blend in: Minimal with a transparent background looks like part of the page; Glass and Paper give it a card of its own.
  • Pair it: a clock and the calendar side by side make a classic dashboard header, and the progress bar shows how far through the month you are.
