Quick answer

One minute is a classic plank challenge, the length of many party games and typing tests, and the most accurate window for counting your resting heart rate. Playxoft's free 1 minute timer is already set to 60 seconds: press Start or the Space key and it sounds an alarm at zero. Turn on Repeat for an alarm at the top of every minute, which makes it an EMOM workout clock.

  • Set to 1 minute
  • Alarm rings in background tabs
  • Multiple timers
  • Six alarm sounds
  • Fullscreen focus mode

How to use this 1 minute timer

  1. 1The timer is already set to 1 minute. Press Start or the Space key to begin.
  2. 2Optional: name it (for example "Plank"), pick an alarm Sound, and turn on Repeat to run it again automatically.
  3. 3While it runs, use +1 min or the quick chips to adjust, and Focus mode for fullscreen digits.
  4. 4When the alarm rings, press Dismiss, or Snooze 5 min for more time.

What can you do in one minute?

  • Plank challenges. A one-minute plank is a common milestone; add a second timer to track rest between attempts.
  • Impromptu speaking. Toastmasters Table Topics answers run one to two minutes, so one minute is a good rehearsal target.
  • Party games. "Minute to win it" style challenges give each player sixty seconds to stack, flip or toss something.
  • Typing and reading tests. Typing speed is measured in words per minute, and many tests run for exactly one minute.
  • Resting heart rate. Counting beats for a full 60 seconds is more accurate than a 15-second count multiplied by four.
  • Breathing breaks. One minute of slow box breathing (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4, hold for 4) fits about four rounds.

How do I use a 1 minute timer for EMOM training?

EMOM means "every minute on the minute". At the start of each minute you perform a set number of reps, for example 10 kettlebell swings, and rest for whatever remains of that minute. Fast reps earn more rest.

To run it here, turn on Repeat: the timer chimes at the top of every minute and starts again by itself, and the round number appears under the clock. For a workout with a fixed number of minutes, a get-ready countdown and beeps in the final three seconds, use the EMOM preset in the interval timer.

Tips for using a 1 minute timer

  • Name the timer (for example "Plank") so the browser tab tells you what is running.
  • Add a second timer for rest and start it when the first one ends.
  • For speeches, use Focus mode so the speaker can see the countdown from the front of the room.
  • Need 90 seconds? Type 1:30 or 90s.

How many seconds is 1 minute?

Frequently asked questions

Sit quietly for a few minutes, find your pulse at the wrist or neck, start the timer and count every beat until the alarm. That count is your heart rate in beats per minute. If it seems unusually high, low or irregular, talk to a doctor.
Yes. Turn on Repeat and it restarts by itself at zero with a short alarm each round, which is ideal for EMOM workouts and minute-by-minute reminders.
Yes. Press F or the fullscreen button for focus mode, which fills the screen with large digits that stay readable from a distance.
