Quick answer

Thirty minutes on five days a week meets the World Health Organization's minimum of 150 minutes of moderate activity for adults. Half an hour also suits study sessions, many cakes and bakes, and screen-time limits. Playxoft's free 30 minute timer is preset: press Start or the Space key and it sounds an alarm at zero. Add more timers to track several things at once.

  • Set to 30 minutes
  • Alarm rings in background tabs
  • Multiple timers
  • Six alarm sounds
  • Fullscreen focus mode

  1. 1The timer is already set to 30 minutes. Press Start or the Space key to begin.
  2. 2Optional: name it (for example "Workout"), pick an alarm Sound, and turn on Repeat to run it again automatically.
  3. 3While it runs, use +1 min or the quick chips to adjust, and Focus mode for fullscreen digits.
  4. 4When the alarm rings, press Dismiss, or Snooze 5 min for more time.

What can you do with a 30 minute timer?

  • Daily activity. The World Health Organization recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity a week; 30 minutes on five days covers it.
  • Study blocks. Half an hour of focused study, then a short break, is a sustainable rhythm.
  • Baking. Many cakes, muffins and roasts call for 25 to 35 minutes; set 30 and check.
  • Screen-time limits. Agree on 30 minutes with kids and let the alarm be the referee.
  • Meetings. A half-hour meeting with a visible countdown tends to stay on agenda.

How much exercise do adults need each week?

The World Health Organization recommends that adults aged 18 to 64 do at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity a week, or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous activity, plus muscle-strengthening activities on two or more days.

Thirty minutes of brisk walking, cycling or swimming on five days a week meets the moderate target. Use this 30 minute timer for the session itself, or split it into shorter bouts that add up. If you are starting from zero, build up gradually.

Tips for using a 30 minute timer

  • Turn on Repeat to break a long work session into half-hour check-ins.
  • Use Focus mode for a large countdown during a meeting or class.
  • Add a 5-minute timer for the cool-down, or for the frosting.
  • Need 45 minutes? Open the 45 minute timer.
