Quick answer

Twenty-five minutes is one Pomodoro, the focus session in Francesco Cirillo's Pomodoro Technique, followed by a 5-minute break. It also suits writing sprints, cleaning sprints and quick workouts. Playxoft's free 25 minute timer is already set: press Start or the Space key and it sounds an alarm at zero. For the full cycle with breaks and daily stats, use Playxoft's Pomodoro timer.

  • Set to 25 minutes
  • Alarm rings in background tabs
  • Multiple timers
  • Six alarm sounds
  • Fullscreen focus mode

How to use this 25 minute timer

  1. 1The timer is already set to 25 minutes. Press Start or the Space key to begin.
  2. 2Optional: name it (for example "Pomodoro"), pick an alarm Sound, and turn on Repeat to run it again automatically.
  3. 3While it runs, use +1 min or the quick chips to adjust, and Focus mode for fullscreen digits.
  4. 4When the alarm rings, press Dismiss, or Snooze 5 min for more time.

What can you do in 25 minutes?

  • A Pomodoro. Work on one task, and only that task, for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break.
  • Writing sprints. Writers use timed sprints to get words on the page without editing as they go.
  • Cleaning sprints. Twenty-five minutes of focused cleaning gets one room done.
  • A quick workout. A short run, a yoga flow or a strength circuit fits comfortably in 25 minutes.
  • Baking. Many cakes and loaves bake for 25 to 35 minutes; set the timer for the low end and check.

Why is a Pomodoro 25 minutes?

Francesco Cirillo created the Pomodoro Technique in the late 1980s as a university student, using a tomato-shaped kitchen timer, and settled on 25-minute work sessions with 5-minute breaks. The length is long enough to make real progress on a task and short enough that staying focused for the whole session feels achievable.

A single 25 minute timer is perfect for one session. For the full cycle, with short breaks, a long break every fourth session, auto-start and a count of today's focus time, use the Pomodoro timer.

Tips for using a 25 minute timer

  • Write the one task you are working on as the timer's name.
  • Close other tabs and put your phone face down before you press Start.
  • When the alarm rings, stop, even mid-sentence, and take the break; it is part of the method.
  • Prefer longer sessions? Try the 50 minute timer with a 10-minute break.

How many seconds is 25 minutes?

Frequently asked questions

Twenty-five minutes is the length of one Pomodoro in the Pomodoro Technique. It is short enough to stay fully focused and long enough to make meaningful progress before a 5-minute break.
Take a 5-minute break away from the task. After four 25-minute sessions, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.
On a computer, yes. The alarm is scheduled on your device's audio clock when you press Start, so it rings on time while you work in another tab. On phones, the browser may suspend the page in the background or when the screen locks, so keep the page open in front.
