Quick answer

Seven minutes is the name of the 7-minute workout, a 12-exercise bodyweight circuit published in 2013, and about right for a soft-set boiled egg or a strong herbal tea. Playxoft's free 7 minute timer is already set: press Start or the Space key and it sounds an alarm at zero. Turn on Repeat to run the circuit two or three times with a cue each round.

  • Set to 7 minutes
  • Alarm rings in background tabs
  • Multiple timers
  • Six alarm sounds
  • Fullscreen focus mode

  1. 1The timer is already set to 7 minutes. Press Start or the Space key to begin.
  2. 2Optional: name it (for example "7-minute workout"), pick an alarm Sound, and turn on Repeat to run it again automatically.

What can you do with a 7 minute timer?

  • The 7-minute workout. A fast bodyweight circuit of jumping jacks, wall sit, push-ups, crunches, step-ups, squats, triceps dips, plank, high knees, lunges, push-ups with rotation and side plank.
  • Soft-set eggs. About seven minutes in boiling water gives a large egg a set white and a soft yolk that holds its shape.
  • Herbal tea. Seven minutes is the upper end of the usual 5 to 7 minute steep for herbal infusions.
  • Short talks. Lightning talks and student presentations are often limited to five to seven minutes.
  • A focused sprint. Seven minutes of single-task work, such as clearing an inbox or writing a first paragraph.

Food safety: Runny and jammy yolks aren't fully cooked; pregnant people, young children, older adults and anyone immunocompromised should choose firm yolks or pasteurized eggs.

What is the 7-minute workout?

The 7-minute workout comes from a 2013 article by exercise physiologists Brett Klika and Chris Jordan in *ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal*. It strings together 12 bodyweight exercises, each done for 30 seconds with about 10 seconds to switch, using only a wall and a chair. The authors note that the circuit can be repeated for a longer session.

To run it with beeps between exercises, open the interval timer and set Work to 0:30, Rest to 0:10 and Rounds to 12. Twelve 30-second exercises plus eleven 10-second switches come to 7 minutes 50 seconds; the name rounds it down. To time the circuit with a single alarm, this 7 minute timer is ready.

High-intensity circuits are demanding. Warm up first, modify exercises as needed, and check with a doctor if you are new to exercise or have a health condition.

Tips for using a 7 minute timer

  • Name the timer and give it a distinct sound if it runs next to a cooking timer.
  • Turn on Repeat to run the circuit two or three times with a cue each round.
  • Focus mode makes the countdown readable from the floor.
  • Need seven and a half minutes? Type 7:30.
