Quick answer

Six minutes is the famous jammy egg: a large egg lowered into boiling water comes out with a set white and a soft, sticky yolk. It also suits herbal tea and a light warm-up, and it is close to a PechaKucha talk (6 minutes 40 seconds). Playxoft's free 6 minute timer is preset: press Start or the Space key and it sounds an alarm at zero.

  • Set to 6 minutes
  • Alarm rings in background tabs
  • Multiple timers
  • Six alarm sounds
  • Fullscreen focus mode

How to use this 6 minute timer

  1. 1The timer is already set to 6 minutes. Press Start or the Space key to begin.
  2. 2Optional: name it (for example "Jammy eggs"), pick an alarm Sound, and turn on Repeat to run it again automatically.
  3. 3While it runs, use +1 min or the quick chips to adjust, and Focus mode for fullscreen digits.
  4. 4When the alarm rings, press Dismiss, or Snooze 5 min for more time.

What is a 6 minute timer good for?

  • Jammy eggs. Lowered into boiling water, a large egg cooked for about six minutes has a set white and a soft, jammy yolk, the kind served on ramen and toast.
  • Herbal tea. Many herbal and fruit infusions steep for 5 to 7 minutes in boiling water.
  • A light warm-up. Five to ten minutes of easy movement before a run or workout is common advice; six minutes of brisk walking, easy jogging and mobility work fits neatly.
  • PechaKucha practice. A PechaKucha talk shows 20 slides for 20 seconds each, 6 minutes 40 seconds in total. Type 6:40 for the exact time.
  • A short reading break. Six minutes is enough for a few pages or a short article.

How long should you boil an egg?

Times below are for large eggs straight from the fridge, lowered into water that is already boiling, then cooled in cold water. Smaller eggs, room-temperature eggs and high altitude all change the result, so treat these as starting points:

TimeWhiteYolk
6 minutesSetJammy, soft center
7 minutesSetSoft but holding its shape
8 minutesFirmJust set, creamy
10 minutesFirmFully set, tender
12 minutesFirmFully set, crumbly

Food safety: Runny and jammy yolks aren't fully cooked; pregnant people, young children, older adults and anyone immunocompromised should choose firm yolks or pasteurized eggs.

Tips for using a 6 minute timer

  • Start the timer the moment the eggs go into the water, not when you put the pan on.
  • Use Add timer for a second countdown, such as the cold-water bath.
  • The Alarm sound is hard to miss over a noisy kitchen fan.
  • For the exact PechaKucha length, type 6:40 in the box under the presets.

How many seconds is 6 minutes?

6 minutes is 360 seconds, or 0.1 of an hour.

With Repeat on, this timer goes off 10 times an hour, which makes it a dependable interval reminder.
