Quick answer

A Notion greeting widget shows a greeting that changes with the time of day, such as Good morning, Alex, at the top of a Notion page. Playxoft's free greeting widget switches between morning, afternoon, evening and night, adds the date or time, shows a sun or a moon, and lets you write your own words in any language. Copy the embed link and paste it into /embed in Notion.

  • Your name
  • Your own words
  • Date and time
  • Sun and moon
  • Five styles

How to use the Notion Greeting Widget

  1. 1Type Your name, and a Second line if you like.
  2. 2Choose the Date and time to show and switch the Sun and moon on or off.
  3. 3Change the greetings for morning, afternoon, evening and night if you want your own words.
  4. 4Pick a style, press Copy embed link, then type /embed in Notion and paste it.

When does the greeting change?

The widget reads the clock of the device viewing the page, or of the city you pick under Time zone, and changes the greeting four times a day:

TimeGreetingIcon
5:00 to 11:59Good morningSun
12:00 to 16:59Good afternoonSun
17:00 to 20:59Good eveningSetting sun
21:00 to 4:59Good nightMoon

It updates on its own while the page is open, so a dashboard left open over lunch moves from morning to afternoon without a reload.

Can I write my own greetings?

Yes. Each of the four greetings is a text box, so you can write them in any language or any tone: "Buenos días", "Bonjour", "Rise and shine", "Hello, night owl". The name is added after a comma, and the Second line sits under the greeting for a motto, a reminder or today's focus.

The date and time under the greeting follow the widget's language setting, so "Thursday, October 15" becomes "Donnerstag, 15. Oktober" in German. Choose 12- or 24-hour time, or leave it on Auto to follow the viewer's language.

Designing a dashboard header

  • Full width at the top: about 700 × 180 gives the greeting room to breathe under a page cover.
  • Blend in: Minimal with a transparent background looks like part of the page title; Glass gives it a card of its own.
  • Build a header row: put the greeting beside a clock or a calendar in columns, with a quote of the day underneath.
  • The text scales to fit, so a long name or second line shrinks to stay on screen rather than being cut off.
  • On phones, Notion stacks columns into one, so the greeting spans the screen width and resizes itself to match.

Is the greeting widget private?

The widget stores nothing and makes no network requests after it loads. Your name and greetings are part of the embed link, so anyone who can open the link, or see your Notion page, can read them, as with any embed setting.

Everyone who opens a shared page sees the greeting for their own time of day, with your name in it, unless you leave the name empty.
