Quick answer
A Notion quote widget shows a quote inside a Notion page through an embed block and changes it on its own. Playxoft's free quote widget picks a new quote every day from more than 100 quotes, each traced to the book, letter or speech it comes from, or rotates through quotes you write. Choose a topic and a style, copy the embed link and paste it into /embed in Notion.
- A new quote every day
- Checked sources
- Your own quotes
- Five topics
- Author and source
- Five styles
How to use the Notion Quote Widget

- 2Under New quote, pick Every day or Every visit.
- 3Choose the style and alignment, and whether to show the author and the source.

/embed, paste the link and choose Embed link.
Where do the quotes come from?
Every quote in the collection is traced to the author's own work: a book, a poem, a letter, a speech or a recorded interview, with translations taken from published editions. Switch on Show the source to see it under the quote, such as *Seneca, Letters to Lucilius* or *Grace Hopper, Computerworld, 1976*.
That matters because many famous quotes online are misattributed. A few we left out on purpose:
| Popular line | Usually credited to | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| "Be the change you wish to see in the world." | Mahatma Gandhi | Not in his writings; the closest passage (1913) is about changing ourselves |
| "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." | Aristotle | Will Durant's summary of Aristotle, *The Story of Philosophy* (1926) |
| "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed…" | Mark Twain | Not found in anything Twain wrote |
The collection covers five topics: motivation and courage, wisdom and life, work and focus (including a few favorites from software and design), learning and reading, and creativity and design.
How does the quote of the day change?
With Every day, the quote depends on the date. Everyone who opens your page on the same day sees the same quote, and it changes at midnight in each viewer's time zone. The widget walks through the whole topic before it repeats a quote, so you will not see the same line twice in a week.
With Every visit, each time the page opens the widget picks a quote at random. Switch on New quote button for a small refresh button in the corner; the daily quote comes back on the next visit.
How do I add my own quotes?
Choose My own under Quotes and write one quote per row: up to 30 rows of up to 240 characters. To credit someone, end the row with a spaced dash and the name, for example Ship small, ship often. — Our team. Without a dash, the quote shows on its own.
Your quotes become part of the embed link, so anyone who can open the link can read them. They are a good fit for team values on a company wiki, mottos for a study planner, vocabulary for a language you are learning, or lines from the book you are reading.
Styling tips for a quote widget
- Paper with its serif italic suits journals and reading lists.
- Minimal, left-aligned and without the quotation mark, reads like part of the page in a narrow column.
- Neon on a dark background turns a short quote into a sign for your dashboard.
- The text scales to fill the embed and wraps on its own, so short quotes look bold and long ones stay readable. A full-width embed of about 700 × 220, or a half-width one of 340 × 230, works for most quotes.
