Quick answer
A Notion button widget is an embedded, styled button that opens a link when clicked. Playxoft's free button widget turns any web address or email link into a solid, soft or outline button with an icon, in five styles and your own color, and opens it in a new tab. Write the text, paste the link, copy the embed link and paste it into /embed in Notion.
- Any web or email link
- Eleven icons
- Solid, soft or outline
- Your brand color
- Fill the embed
- Five styles
How to use the Notion Button Widget
- 1Write the Button text and paste the Link.
- 2Pick an Icon, a Look and the Corners.
- 3Choose Fill the embed for a big block, or a Position for a button that sits left, center or right.
- 4Set an accent color to match your brand, then press Copy embed link.
- 5In Notion, type
/embed, paste the link and choose Embed link.
Button widget or Notion's own button?
Notion has its own button block. It runs actions inside Notion, such as inserting blocks or adding a page to a database, and it comes in Notion's standard look.
| Button widget | Notion button block | |
|---|---|---|
| Opens | Any web page or email address, in a new tab | Actions inside Notion |
| Look | Five styles, your color, icons, any size | Notion's standard button |
| Best for | Calls to action, links out, public pages | Templates and workflows inside your workspace |
Use the widget when the button should stand out or lead somewhere outside Notion: booking a call, opening a course, buying a product, joining a newsletter.
Which links work?
Web addresses (https:// and http://) and email links (mailto:hello@example.com, which opens the viewer's email app). If you leave out https://, the widget adds it. Anything else, such as javascript: or data: links, is refused for safety and the button stays grayed out with a note.
The button always opens its link in a new tab, without telling the other site which page the visitor came from. Opening in a new tab is also the dependable choice inside Notion, which shows embeds in a frame. Hover over the button to see the full address before clicking.
Ideas for buttons in Notion
- Notion websites: a "Book a call" or "Get in touch" button on a page published with Notion Sites.
- Course and client portals: "Open the lesson", "Join the call", "Upload files".
- Team wikis: "Open the dashboard", "Report a bug", "Request time off" linking to your tools.
- Personal dashboards: one-click shortcuts to the sites you use every day.
Styling tips
- One main action: make it Solid; use Outline or Soft for second choices beside it.
- Make the whole block clickable: Fill the embed stretches the button to the embed's full size, and the text scales with it.
- Size it: about 240 × 72 for a single button in a column; a full-width embed of 90 px high makes a banner.
- Brand color: set the accent to your brand's color, and the button, its glow and its hover state follow.
