Quick answer
A Notion counter widget is a number with plus and minus buttons that you embed in a Notion page to count anything with a tap. Playxoft's free counter counts in steps you choose, shows progress toward a goal, can start over every day, week, month or year, and saves the count in your browser. Set it up, copy the embed link and paste it into /embed in Notion.
- Plus and minus
- Custom step
- Goal with progress bar
- Daily to yearly reset
- Saved in your browser
- Five styles
How to use the Notion Counter Widget
- 1Give the counter a Title, such as "Push-ups today".
- 2Set where it Starts at and the Step each tap adds.
- 3Add a Goal for a progress bar, and choose when to Start over.
- 4Pick a style, press Copy embed link, then type
/embedin Notion and paste it. - 5Tap + to count. Reset asks once more before it starts over.
What can I count with a Notion counter?
Anything you want to count without opening a spreadsheet. A few setups people use:
| Counting | Step | Goal | Start over |
|---|---|---|---|
| Glasses of water | 1 | 8 | Every day |
| Push-ups | 10 | 100 | Every day |
| Pages written | 1 | 5 | Every day |
| Sales calls | 1 | 30 | Every week |
| Books read | 1 | 4 | Every month |
| Days without sugar | 1 | none | Never |
With a goal, a bar under the number fills as you go and the number turns to your accent color once you reach it. Without one, the widget is a plain tally counter. The count can go below zero, so it also works for counting down.
How does the automatic reset work?
Start over puts the counter back to its Starts at value at the beginning of each period, by the clock of the device viewing it:
- Every day: at midnight.
- Every week: at midnight between Sunday and Monday.
- Every month: on the first day of the month.
- Every year: on 1 January.
The reset happens the next time the widget is open, so a counter you have not looked at for a week shows zero the moment you do. The Reset button starts over by hand; it asks "Sure?" first, so a stray tap does not wipe your count.
Where is the count saved?
- This browser only. Counts live in your browser's storage for the widget, on this device. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no account, and it does not sync between your laptop and your phone.
- Yours alone. Everyone who opens the Notion page gets their own copy of the widget, starting empty. For a tracker a whole team shares, use a Notion database instead.
- The title names it. The widget saves under its Title, so two trackers on your pages need different titles to stay apart. A new style or color keeps your data.
- When it is not kept. Private windows and strict privacy settings can block storage in embeds; the widget then says so and works for that visit only. Clearing your browser's site data erases it, and Safari can clear it when playxoft.com has not been visited for a while.
Counter widget or Notion's own buttons?
Notion's own button blocks and database automations can change a number property, and they are the right choice when a count has to be shared with a team or kept with a database record.
The widget is quicker for personal counts: no database to set up, one tap, a big number you can read from across the room and a goal bar. Put it beside a habit tracker or a water tracker for a simple daily dashboard.
