Quick answer
A Notion habit tracker widget is a grid of tick boxes, one row per habit and one box per day, that you embed in a Notion page. Playxoft's free habit tracker shows this week or this month, marks today, counts your streaks and saves your ticks in your browser, with no account. List your habits, copy the embed link and paste it into /embed in Notion.
- Up to 8 habits
- Week or month view
- Streaks
- Tick past days
- Saved in your browser
- Five styles
How to use the Notion Habit Tracker Widget
- 1List up to 8 Habits, one per row.
- 2Choose This week or This month, and whether to show Streaks.
- 3Give the tracker a Title, pick a style and press Copy embed link.
- 4In Notion, type
/embed, paste the link and choose Embed link. - 5Tap a box to tick a day, and tap it again to untick it.
How does the habit tracker work?
Each habit gets a row of boxes, one for each day of this week or this month. Today's column is outlined, days still to come are locked, and past days stay open, so you can tick yesterday if you forgot.
Streaks count the days in a row you ticked a habit, ending today. A streak does not break at midnight: until today is over, it still counts up to yesterday, so you can keep it alive in the evening.
This week suits a half-width embed or a sidebar, with big boxes that are easy to tap on a phone. This month shows a box for every day of the month, which reads best in a full-width embed. The week starts on Monday or Sunday, following each viewer's language, or the day you choose.
Where are my ticks saved?
- This browser only. Your ticks live in your browser's storage for the widget, on this device. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no account, and it does not sync between your laptop and your phone.
- Yours alone. Everyone who opens the Notion page gets their own copy of the widget, starting empty. For a tracker a whole team shares, use a Notion database instead.
- The title names it. The widget saves under its Title, so two trackers on your pages need different titles to stay apart. A new style or color keeps your data.
- When it is not kept. Private windows and strict privacy settings can block storage in embeds; the widget then says so and works for that visit only. Clearing your browser's site data erases it, and Safari can clear it when playxoft.com has not been visited for a while.
Ticks belong to a habit's name, so you can reorder habits or add new ones without losing anything. A renamed habit starts fresh, and its old ticks come back if you change the name back.
Habit tracker widget or a Notion database?
| Habit tracker widget | Notion database with checkboxes | |
|---|---|---|
| Ticking a day | One tap | Open the row, tick the property |
| Streaks | Built in | Needs formulas |
| Shared with others | No, per browser | Yes, everyone with access |
| Syncs between devices | No | Yes |
| Reports and filters | No | Yes, with views and charts |
| Setup | Paste one link | Build the database and views |
Use the widget for a quick personal check-in on your dashboard. Use a database when the record matters: shared goals, long-term history or charts. Many people keep both, with the widget on the daily page and a database for the monthly review.
Tips for habits that stick
- Start small. Three to five habits are easier to keep than eight; add more once these feel automatic.
- Make them specific. "Read 10 pages" is easier to tick honestly than "Read more".
- Anchor them. Tie each habit to something you already do: stretch after brushing your teeth, plan tomorrow after dinner.
- Expect it to take a while. In a 2010 study at University College London, new daily habits took 66 days on average to feel automatic, with a wide range from person to person. Missing a single day did not undo the progress.
